How To Turn Failure Into Success By Changing Your Thoughts
It’s no secret that mind and body are interconnected. Your emotions affect your physical health and vice versa. This is especially true when it comes to pain. Studies have shown that your mindset can actually have a significant impact on how much pain you feel.
If you’re struggling with chronic pain, you may be feeling hopeless and helpless. But the good news is that there are things you can do to ease your pain, both physically and mentally, says the pain physician Dr Brian Blick.
Here are some tips to get you started.
1. Understand Your Pain
The first step to easing your pain is to understand it. What’s causing your pain? Is it an injury, disease, or something else? Once you know what’s causing your pain, you can start looking for ways to treat it.
2. Connect With Others
You don’t have to suffer through pain alone. There are others who understand what you’re going through and can offer support and advice. Seek out a support group or online community for people with chronic pain. Connecting with others will help you feel less isolated and more understood.
3. Get Moving
Exercise may be the last thing on your mind when you’re in pain, but it can actually help reduce inflammation and improve your mood. Even moderate exercise can make a difference. If you’re not sure where to start, talk to Dr Brian Blick or a physical therapist about an exercise plan that’s right for you.
4. Change Your Thinking
The way you think about your pain can also affect how much it hurts. If you focus on all the negative aspects of your pain—the things you can’t do because of it, the ways it interferes with your life—you’ll only make yourself feel worse. Instead, try to focus on the positives, such as the things you can still do despite your pain or the ways you’ve been able to cope with it effectively in the past.
No one deserves to suffer from chronic pain day in and day out without any relief—and luckily, there are things you can do to ease your pain, both physically and mentally.
